Ayurvedic remedy for migraines

According to Ayurveda, Migraine is a tridosha disorder. It is essentially caused by Vata and pitta dosha. Those with a Vata constitution are likely to suffer from migraines. In fact, it is the imbalance of Vata, which controls the nervous system and brain activity, that causes the disease. Vata imbalance mainly occurs due to improper metabolism, mental and physical stress, menstrual cycles, insomnia, hunger, barometric changes, toxicity in the body and excessive computer use. “Pitta” causes dilation of the blood vessels, which could also result in the onset of a migraine attack.

Few home remedies

Take a break from your work and lie in a dark room with a cool cloth over your eyes. This would of course provide some instant relief.
Stay away from direct sunlight and have a glass of coconut water to restore electrolytes.
Cumin, coriander, & fennel teahelps to cleanse the toxins and impurities that have accumulated in the blood.
Use aromatic herbs such as lemon balm, Brahmi, sandalwood, and cloves that possess a natural antispasmodic action which reduces colic in blood vessels.
Use licorice rootwhich reduces heat and inflammation and supports liver function.
Get a soothing scalp massage with Brahmi oil, and place a few drops of Brahmi ghee in each nostril which gives you a quick relief from the pain associated with migraines.
A Pitta pacifying diet is usually suitable for long term management of migraines
